GLENAFTON ATHLETIC 1 MAYBOLE 1
New signing Darren McMahon made his debut in the middle park but after an encouraging start limped off after 33 minutes to be replaced by Jamie MacDonald who would also later succumb to injury.Maybole kicked off with a strong icy wind at their back and were first to threaten on 9 minutes when Scoular cleared a corner kick, one of many the visitors would win in the half, off the line at the back post. Just before the half hour mark Gordon Moffat and Ally Semple combined to foil a run into the box, and later Dougie Ram-say brought an excellent run to the bye-lie with a last ditch block at the near post. Maybole's pressure paid off on 41 minutes when the Glens failed with a corner kick and No. 10 scooped the ball into the net from 8 yards out. A minute later an Aaron Scoular shot from the edge of the box was brilliantly beaten over the bar by May-bole's goalkeeper. A minute after that the goalie topped it with a stunning save to force a Gareth Armstrong thunderbolt wide of the post.
HT Glens 0 Maybole 1
It was Armstrong who carved out the first chance of the second half but Bo at full stretch just failed to hit the target. With 20 minutes of the half gone a Glens free-kick was won by Steven Reilly in the box and the loose ball fell to Scoular who slammed the ball wide of target, but for some reason the assistant referee had flagged for an earlier infringement. The Glens laid siege to the Maybole goal and both teams were penned in the penalty box like sheep at the Rottenyard trials, and on more than one occasion Maybole would break up field with the speed and finesse of a collie-dug, but a combination of good defending, poor finishing and a wee dive, failed to find the net.
On 40 minutes Armstrong was denied again, after having seen off the challenge of the centre-half he looped the ball over the goalie's head but it bounced off the top of the bar. Three minutes later the home side's efforts were rewarded. A Richie McKillen corner from the right was met at the back post by Davie Clapperton who headed it back to Cameron Murray, his low shot was blocked in a sea of legs and the ball broke to the right side of the box where McKilllen had arrived and the tall defender rifled the ball into the roof of the net. In time added-on another Glens corner kick was cleared to the edge of the box and a Dougie Ramsay daisy-cutter whistled millimetres past the post. A minute later Semple came to the rescue and a share of the points secured
