Rutherglen Glencairn vs. Glenafton Athletic: Super League First Division

RUTHERGLEN GLENCAIRN 3 GLENAFTON ATHLETIC 2

Scorers: Eeles, Feroz

Glenafton fielded the same starting eleven that won away at Cumnock last week. However with 15 minutes gone a reshuffle was required after Chic Connolly came off worse in a collision with goalie Ally Semple to be replaced by Jamie MacDonald. The home side had enjoyed the best of the opening exchanges and in 28 minutes took the lead when Paul Thomson crashed home an unsaveable shot from the edge of the box. Just before the break however, the visitors drew level when Simon Eeles curled a 25 yard free kick into the postage stamp corner of the Glencairn goal. HT R'glen 1 Glens 1

Jose Quitongo replaced Joe Savage after the big striker had been subjected to some unsavoury attention at the interval. Within 5 minutes of the restart Rutherglen restored their one goal advantage when Stephen O'Keane cut into the box from the right wing and squeezed his shot past the unsighted Ally Semple. The Glens used up their last substitute with Simon Eeles making way for Mark Quinn and then had to play for a spell with 10 men when Gordon Moffat was helped off with a gashed nose. Jose Quitongo was beginning to show his class. At last the Afton were looking the part and were duly rewarded some 8 minutes from time with another Craig Feroz special lobbing the ball over Stephen McNeil in the Glencairn goal from the edge of the box, to set up a 'goal the winner' finish. If anything the visitors looked most likely to snatch the spoils but in the 94th minute Paul McLaughlin latched onto a long through ball and stroked home the winner. FT R'glen 3 Glens 2

Glens: Semple; Connolly (MacDoanld), Moffat, Merrilees, Wilson; Eeles (Quinn) , Clapperton, Ramsay, Hart, Feroz , Savage (Quitongo)
