Kirkintilloch Rob Roy vs. Glenafton Athletic: Stagecoach Superleague Premier Division

In the first league encounter between Rob Roy and the Glens at Adamslie Park it was the home side that got off to the perfect start. As in the corresponding fixture at Loch Park earlier in the season the Rabs raced to an early two goal lead. However, on this occasion there was to be no three goal comeback by the Glens.

With less than a minute on the clock Michael Hughes headed on a long throw in from Johnathon Carter for Grant Anderson to nod home the opener. Two minutes later former Cumnock hit-man Hughes flicked the ball up in the air and from twenty yards out cracked home the second well out of reach of the diving Chris Fahey. De javu kicked in when on 7 minutes Steven McGregor rose to head in a free kick to bring the Glens back into the game. On 15 minutes fellow defender Andy Ward came close to drawing the Glens level but his effort from a few yards out slipped past the post. Two Jamie Doyle efforts before the break were just off target while the Rabs almost extended their lead but Dean Muir’s header headed over the bar. Half-time Rabs 2 Glens 1

The Glens started the second half on top with a Craig Feroz effort flying over the bar. Keeper Kevin Bell then pulled off a brilliant save to deny Doyle a deserved equaliser from a well struck free kick. Bell was having a dinger of a game and dived low to foil Feroz on 55 minutes .It seemed only a matter of time before the Glens pressure would pay off - but with 15 minutes to go the sucker punch arrived when Hughes released Anderson, who paid little heed to the away support’s cries of offside, and fired home to restore the Rabs two goal cushion. The deficit was back to one soon after when Craig Feroz dispossessed the careless Carter and slotted the ball home beyond Bell. In the closing minutes Chris Zok fired a shot across the goalmouth and it was to be no happy return to Adamslie for the former Rabs favourite. Full time Rabs 3 Glens 2
