ARTHURLIE 5 GLENAFTON ATHLETIC 0
A bright start by the Glens which saw Paul McMullan break free down the left wing on more than one occasion proved to be a false dawn. Chris Fahey had already produced fantastic point blank save from Craig Malcolm before the nippy forward pounced on the loose ball from a corner kick to prod it home from a few yards out and put the home side ahead after 7 minutes. The ‘Lie doubled their lead 6 minutes later when Joe Andrew put the finishing touches to a fine passage of passing play. Malcolm almost made it 3-0 with a flashing header before Chris Zok was denied by the base of the post to give the Glens a glimmer of hope. .Fahey then blocked another close range Malcolm effort half way through the half. Indeed it was a relief to go in only two down at the break. Half-time Arthurlie 2 Glens 0
That relief turned to anguish as Chris Fahey, who had sustained an injury in the opening minutes of the game was replaced in goal after the break by centre-half Andy Gow, and the big man’s first action was to pick an Andrew’s strike out of the back of the net, 13 seconds after the re-start. The uphill struggle had now taken on mountainous proportions and although the Glens never came close to staging a comeback it is to their credit they continued to pass the ball and go in search of a consolation. Zok was inches away from getting on the end of a ball faced played across the face of the goal by Jamie Doyle. Goalie Gow too played his part with a fine double save from ‘Lie’s man-of-the-match John McLay.
On 68 minutes the Barrhead side extended their lead when Malcolm found space in the box to drill the ball low into the net from 15 yards out. In time added on Andrew pounced on a tired clearance and picked his spot and side footed home his hat-trick to complete the scoring. For the first time this season the Glens had failed to find the net in a league game: Full time Arthurlie 5 Glens 0
