Glenafton Athletic vs. Arthurlie : Stagecoach Super League Premier Division

Scorer : Zok

The deal to bring Chic Connolly back from Irvine Meadow to Glenafton was completed in time to allow last season's Glenafton Player-of-the-Year to take his place on the bench for this league match against Arthurlie.

The Glens put the dampers on a bright start by Arthurlie and controlled much of the first half. On 10 minutes a quick free kick caught the visitors napping but keeper Peter Shaw did enough to force Chris Zok to push his shot wide of target. Ten minutes later the keeper then scrambled another Zok effort away from danger.  In between times Chris Fahey had pulled off a fine save from a Lee Sharp free-kick. With 10 minutes of the half remaining Zok's perseverance finally paid off when he got on the end of a Craig Feroz knock-down to turn and lash home and unstoppable volley from the tighter of angles.  Half-time Glens 1 Arthurlie 0

The second half followed a similar pattern however on this occasion the visitors' bright start was rewarded with a well worked goal. On 57 minutes Craig Malcolm waltzed his way from the right flank deep into the Glens box before setting up John Johnson to slam the ball home from six yards out. Fahey then kept the scores level with another fine save minutes later. The 'Lie's hopes of turning the game around were boosted further when Simon Eeles on breaking down the wing lost control of the ball and his tackle to redeem it was deemed a straight red card. The ten men survived and when numbers were leveled on 73 minutes after a deliberate hand-ball prevented Feroz running in on goal, the Glens finished the stronger of the two teams. In a five minute spell Shaw pulled off another great save from Zok, turned a Feroz header round the post and although he was beaten by the resultant corner, he could only watch as Zok’s effort from a few yards out hit the base of the post. Chic Connolly, who had replaced Jamie Doyle then tested the keeper from the edge of box but his shot zipped over the bar. In the dying minutes the visitors nearly stole all three points but Fahey pulled off a top drawer save. Then on the last attack of the game Chris Cameron almost snatched the ball when Zok set him up in the box, but although his shot beat shot Shaw it could only find the side netting.
