Glenafton Athletic vs. Bellshill Athletic: Super League Premier Division

GLENAFTON ATHLETIC 2 BELLSHILL ATHLETIC 0

Scorers: Zok, Eeles

The Glens raced to a two goal lead in the opening 15 minutes of the game and were unfortunate not to have doubled that tally soon after. Chris Zok made the breakthrough in 3 minutes when he gathered the ball in the box and slotted it home from 10 yards out past the advancing Scott McNab. The goalie had a hand (or two) in the second goal. Chris Merrilees launched a monster throw-in from the left flank high into the box tempting McNab to the outskirts of his six-yard box, but his two handed flap saw the ball fall kindly in the path of Simon Eeles who sweetly volleyed the ball home from just about the penalty spot.

Three minutes later a Chris Cameron free-kick from the left flank saw Steven McGregor beat keeper and defender to head the ball on for Zok, but his header crashed off the underside of the bar. Cameron, whose distribution throughout the game was the architect of many of the Glens attacking moves, nipped into to steal a short pass as Bellshill tried to clear their lines and as Zok and Craig Feroz broke into the box to his right along with their markers, he switched play and fed Eeles down the left to give him a clear run in goals but this time the sweet strike battered off the bar.

Bellshill did break forth to give their defence some respite but found Chris Fahey in determined fashion and his handling in such wet and windy conditions left the visiting forwards frustrated on more than one occasion. Half-time Glens 2 Bellshill 0

Despite conditions deteriorating in the second half still both sides still created a number of chances. Feroz pulled off a good save from McNab and then Fahey more than equalled that with a stunning save from a wel-struck free-kick from the edge of the penalty box. The keeper then demonstrated he was no slouch coming off his line to foil a two versus one break by the visitors front-men. Not to be outdone, McNab at full stretch tipped a great effort round the post from Zok, who had turned and fired his shot at goal in an instant. Both keepers came out on top and there was to be no further scoring. Full time Glens 2 Bellshill 0
