Glenafton Athletic vs. Maxwellton Thistle: Joe Meldrum Trophy

GLENAFTON ATHLETIC 10  MAXWELLTON THISTLE 0

Scorers: Grant (3), Ramsay (2), Merrilees, McGregor, Howie, Tullis (2), Doyle

Having lost the opening match of the tournament 7-0 to Ardrossan Winton Rovers, the Dumfries based amateur side found the going just as tough against the Glens. Having survived an early spot kick when Craig Feroz's shot hit the post they conceded three first half goals. JP Grant opened the scoring with a well placed shot from 12 yards; Dougie Ramsay then headed a second before Chris Merrilees hit an unstoppable volley from 10 yards out. Half-time Glens 3 Maxwellton 0

The second half started with a spectacular lob by Steven McGregor from just inside the Mawellton half followed swiftly with a 25 yard thunderbolt from captain Willie Howie.   JP scored a second half brace, including a spot-kick to claim his hat-trick. Trialist Stuart Tullis hit a quick-fire double the first an exquisite touch to guide the ball beyond the Thistle goalie, who  despite the drubbing was having a fine game. Jamie Doyle got his name on the score sheet after another spell of fine build up play by new signing Paul McMullan.  Full time Glens 10 Maxwellton 0

Glenafton : Fahey; Merrilees, Gow (Eeles), McGregor, Quinn; Ramsay, Howie, Doyle, McMullan; Feroz (Tullis), Grant.
