GLENAFTON ATHLETIC vs. Dalry Thistle Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup Quarter-Final

Scorer: Quinn

The Glens cobbled together a side for their 8th game in 12 days for the visit of Dalry Thistle. Alan Morrison made his full debut and Graham Mathie returned to the side at left back. The visitors almost took the lead in the opening minute but the forward failed to take his chance and shot wide with the goalie beaten. However, the hardworking Thistle were rewarded in the 17th minute when a long through ball beat the offside trap and this time striker ran and knocked the ball beyond the advancing Morrison with some style. Five minutes later the visitors doubled their lead with a fine looping header into the top corner of Morrison's net.  The keeper had to be alert and was quickly of his to block another break-away and stop a certain third goal.

With only some local amateurs available for selection on the bench the Glens continued with same eleven in the second half and enjoyed much more possession and created the bulk of the chances. With 20 minutes remaining their efforts were rewarded when a corner-kick from the right created havoc in the Dalry box and after the ball ping-ponged about it fell to Mark Quinn who slammed into the far corner of the net.  The Glens continued to press but without much success and indeed Thistle got a second wind near the end and always dangerous on the break. Ryan Scobie then was unfortunate not to get enough on an Agnew free kick and the ball glanced off the top of his head and beyond the post.
