GLENAFTON ATHLETIC 0 Petershill 1
The Glens welcomed back John McMillan and Frankie Haggarty back to the starting eleven, after being cup-tied for the game against Irvine Meadow XI. Darren Johnstone the Glens top goal-scorer paired up with John McCaig in the centre of defence in place of the injured Dale Beattie. With four league victories in a row in 2007 and without conceding a goal the Glens were facing a Petershill side that were playing their first league game of 2007.
It was the Glasgow side that would take all 3 points in the first ever league encounter between these two sides thanks to a marvellous strike from former Motherwell striker Alex Burns, slamming home a free-kick from 25 yards out in the last minute of the first half. The Glens had strongly contested the awarding of the free-kick and Chic Connolly continued his protest as the teams left the park at the break, and was shown a red card for comments made to the referee.
Ten vs. eleven proved too much for the Glens in the second-half against a well-organised and hard working Petershill team and indeed the visitors could have added to their tally but for a glaring miss late in the match.
A disappointing end to a five-game winning streak for the Glens and the focus now is taking the positives from that run into the next match.
