Stagecoach Super League Premier Division GLENAFTON ATHLETIC vs. Auchinleck Talbot

GLENAFTON ATHLETIC 0 Auchinleck Talbot 2

With John McCaig unavailable for selection the Glens formation was reshuffled with Dale Beattie dropping back to the centre of defence and Anbdrew Bonner given a starting place , to partner Darren Johnstone up front.  On a glorious sunny afternoon it was the Talbot who started the brightest with a wave of attacks , one of which ended with Mark Quinn having to clear a corner-kick off his own goal-line; and another saw a Gillies shot batter off the cross-bar. Mallan, was being well marshalled by Beattie and on the few occasions the veteran striker got the better of his former team-mate, Gary Matthews (and his new boots) would frustrate or his finishing would let him down.

It hadn't been all toffee for McIntosh in the Talbot goal as he saved well from a Stevie Agnew free-kick and then went one better with a finger-tip save from a Willie Howie thunderbolt.

A minute or so before the break the Glens appeared to have won a corner-kick but the referee thought otherwise and the Talbot capitalised on the official's judgement and from a quickly taken goal-kick they caught the Glens defence unaware and it was left to Stuart Davidson to putting the finishing touch and slot the ball home.

Half-time : GLENAFTON ATHLETIC 0 Auchinleck Talbot 1

Zander Allan, who had come on for Bonner just before the break, now partnered Johnstone up front and big DJ nearly added to his recent impressive tally of goals, but was denied by McIntosh. Matthews countered in the Glens goal by preventing Feroz from extended Talbot's lead.

The Glens were forced into a re-shuffle when Beattie had to leave the park through injury, and Johnstone fell back into a defensive role, and the trialist Milliken was introduced to the affray. The game quickly swung back in Talbot's favour and the Glens were on the backfoot. Matthews heroics and poor finishing by the visitors kept the score at 1-0, until 6 minutes from time when Feroz on this occasion was not to be denied.
